ABUJA, Nigeria – The US Embassy Nigeria and the Consulate General in Lagos will suspend routine operations on Friday, 3 July 2026, in observance of the United States Independence Day holiday, the U.S. Mission in Nigeria has announced.
The temporary closure affects the U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos, with normal diplomatic and consular services expected to resume after the public holiday.
In a statement issued on Thursday through its official social media platforms, the U.S. Mission advises visa applicants, passport applicants and other visitors to adjust their schedules accordingly.
“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Friday, July 3, 2026, in observance of the U.S. Independence Day holiday,” the Mission says.
The annual closure is part of the official holiday calendar observed by American diplomatic missions worldwide to mark Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July.
The holiday commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on 4 July 1776, when the 13 American colonies formally declared their independence from British rule, laying the foundation for the establishment of the United States.
