ILORIN, Nigeria – Three suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity have been arrested over the alleged abduction and murder of a student of Kwara State Polytechnic, as police intensify efforts to dismantle the cult network and apprehend other fleeing suspects.
The Kwara student murder investigation gathered momentum after operatives of the Kwara State Police Command’s Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) carried out intelligence-led raids on suspected cult hideouts across Ilorin metropolis.
The victim, Sodiq Durodola Olaniyi, a 29-year-old indigene of Oyo State and student of Kwara State Polytechnic, was reported missing on 4 June 2026, prompting an intensive police investigation.
Confirming the arrests on Thursday, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, identified the suspects as Adeoye Babatunde Alimi, 23, also known as “Solar”; Bernard Kayode, 25, alias “KK”; and Owoyemi Bashiru, 27, alias “GDP.”
According to the police, the suspects are believed to be members of the notorious Eiye Confraternity operating within Ilorin.
“Acting on credible intelligence and sustained investigation, VCRU operatives on Monday, 29th June, 2026, conducted coordinated tactical operations on identified cult hideouts within Ilorin metropolis, leading to the arrest of Adeoye Babatunde Alimi (23), alias ‘Solar’; Bernard Kayode (25), alias ‘KK’; and Owoyemi Bashiru (27), alias ‘GDP’,” Ejire-Adeyemi says.
She explains that preliminary investigations linked the suspects to the disappearance of Olaniyi before investigators secured what police describe as crucial confessional statements during interrogation.
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their respective roles in the crime and disclosed that the victim was executed by members of the cult group after his abduction.”
Police investigations indicate that the criminal gang comprises 12 members, with nine suspects still at large.
