ABUJA, Nigeria – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has reaffirmed its partnership with the Nigerian government to enhance child wellbeing through strengthened health services, improved education systems and expanded social protection programmes.
In a statement released on Monday via its official Nigeria X (formerly Twitter) platform, UNICEF said the collaboration aims to ensure every child has access to healthcare, quality learning, nutrition and protection, particularly in underserved communities.
“UNICEF is proud to work with the government and partners to strengthen systems and improve lives, expanding access to quality health care, education, nutrition and social protection for every child, while building climate resilience and empowering young people,” the organisation noted.
UNICEF has long supported national child-focused programmes, including immunisation drives, school improvement initiatives, and youth empowerment training. The agency said it is also helping local institutions plan for climate-related challenges affecting children, especially flooding, displacement and food insecurity.
Development experts say the renewed partnership aligns with Nigeria’s national development frameworks and could improve progress on reducing child poverty and advancing inclusive growth.
The organisation stressed that building resilient public systems will ensure progress is sustainable beyond short-term interventions.
UNICEF reaffirmed that it would continue advocating policies that protect children’s rights, while supporting the government to create a safer and more equitable future for every Nigerian child.
