KWARA, Nigeria — Turkey pledges continued support for Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts following the killing of more than 170 people in a deadly attack on communities in Kwara State.
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued the pledge on Thursday via its official platform, condemning the assault on Worro and Nuku communities, were suspected Boko Haram militants reportedly targeted civilians.
In a statement, Ankara expresses deep sorrow over the incident and solidarity with Nigeria.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives caused by the terrorist attack in Kwara State,” the ministry says.

“We strongly condemn this attack and stand with the people of Nigeria,” the statement adds.
The ministry reaffirms Turkey’s commitment to assisting Nigeria in tackling terrorism and violent extremism.
“Turkey will continue to support Nigeria in its fight against terrorism,” it declares.
The attack reportedly occurred after residents refused to adopt extremist ideologies imposed by the attackers.
In response, President Bola Tinubu authorised the immediate deployment of an army battalion to conduct counter-offensive operations in the affected areas.
The deployment forms part of intensified security measures aimed at restoring stability and preventing further attacks in Kwara State.
