LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State Council of the Trade Union Congress Women Commission (TUCWC) convened government officials, union leaders, students, advocacy groups and development partners on Friday for its 2025 edition of the 16 Days of Activism campaign, themed “Unite to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls.”.
Declaring the programme open, Chairperson of TUCWC Lagos, Comrade Ololade Gbajumo, stressed the need for collective responsibility in safeguarding online spaces and empowering young people to champion digital safety.
“Both girls and boys have crucial roles to play in building safe and respectful digital environments,” she said, while moderating the day’s high-level panel session.
The programme demonstrated strong institutional collaboration with representatives of the Lagos State Attorney-General’s Office, the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) and the National Chairperson of TUCWC all in attendance.
One panelist warned that cyberbullying, online harassment and image-based abuse have become serious threats to the well-being of women and girls, calling for urgent multi-stakeholder action.
Discussions highlighted practical strategies for digital safety in schools, workplaces and communities. The event also honoured the TUCWC Lagos EXCO, NLC Women Commission Lagos, union women leaders and Evolve Charity.
Special commendations were given to five participating schools for releasing their students for the advocacy initiative.
The programme ended with a renewed call for stronger policies and collaborative action to ensure safe, inclusive digital spaces for women and girls across Lagos and beyond.
