KATSINA, Nigeria – Nigerian troops have killed four suspected terrorists, including notorious bandit commander Bishir Holami, in a targeted military operation along the Turare–Yantumaki Road in Katsina State.
The operation, carried out by the 17 Brigade at about 11:40 a.m. on Friday, resulted in the recovery of weapons, motorcycles, mobile phones and cash, according to the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Mu’azu on Saturday.
Security forces reportedly came under attack during the patrol but responded swiftly, pursuing the assailants and neutralising all four suspects without recording any casualties.
Recovered items include an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones and ₦153,400. Authorities said forensic analysis is underway on the seized devices, some of which reportedly contain images of the suspects in military uniforms.
Preliminary intelligence identified the deceased as Bishir Holami, Jamilu Baki, Ibrahim Doro and Abdurraman Maje—individuals linked to multiple attacks across Dutsinma and Matazu Local Government Areas.
Mu’azu described the operation as a “major operational success,” noting that the elimination of Holami dealt a significant blow to the network of a feared bandit leader, Muhammadu Fulani.
“This reflects the government’s sustained offensive against banditry and commitment to restoring peace,” he said.
Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing actionable intelligence, emphasising that community cooperation remains critical to ongoing security operations.
