President Bola Tinubu
ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu approves a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Ogun State, backed by a ₦15 billion take-off grant.
The campus, to be located in Erinja, aligns with the Nigeria Police Academy Act, enabling multi-campus expansion.
Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga in a statement on Monday says the funding—sourced from TETFund—will cover infrastructure, academic facilities and student accommodation.
“The expansion will strengthen policing education and national security,” the Presidency states.
The decision follows consultations involving the Inspector General of Police, the National Universities Commission and the Ministry of Education.
Officials assess student capacity, manpower needs and academic standards before approval.
The new campus marks the academy’s first expansion beyond its Wudil base since becoming a degree-awarding institution.
Experts say decentralisation could improve training capacity amid growing recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force.
Security analysts add that modern training infrastructure remains critical to addressing evolving security challenges.
