President Bola Tinubu
ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has vowed to restore the integrity of Nigeria’s judiciary, declaring that the Bench must never become vulnerable to influence or commercialisation.
Addressing judges at the 2025 All Nigerian Judges’ Conference of the Superior Courts in Abuja on Monday, the President insisted that judicial credibility is central to national stability.
“Justice must never be for sale, and the Bench must never become a sanctuary for compromise,” Tinubu said, warning that public confidence collapses when courtrooms become places where outcomes can be bought.
President Tinubu pledged deeper executive support to strengthen judicial independence, improve welfare for judicial officers and create an environment where judges can deliver justice without fear or favour.
The biennial conference, organised by the National Judicial Institute, gathered justices from the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, Federal High Court, state High Courts and other superior courts to examine structural challenges undermining justice delivery. Tinubu emphasised that the judiciary must remain the “pillar of fairness in a polarised society,” urging judges to resist pressure from political actors, wealthy defendants and vested interests.
He highlighted his administration’s pledge to improve court infrastructure, prioritise digital justice tools and expand training for judges in emerging crime patterns, including cybercrime, financial fraud and terrorism cases.
The President also underscored the importance of public trust, saying “A judiciary that citizens do not trust cannot protect their rights.”
Organisers say the 2025 conference will explore reforms needed to modernise Nigeria’s justice system and enhance efficiency across all superior courts. Judges welcomed the President’s commitments, with several describing the speech as “a needed call to duty.”
