ABUJA, Nigeria – The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has commissioned a 244-bed female hostel worth N1.3 billion at Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic in Bori, Rivers State, marking another milestone in efforts to improve accommodation in Nigeria’s public tertiary institutions.
The project was inaugurated on Thursday by a house of representative members, representing the South-South region on the TETFund Board of Trustees, Aboh Uduyok. He praised the institution for completing the hostel despite harsh economic conditions, calling the development “a celebration of partnership, vision and progress.”
“This facility reflects prudent resource management and a shared commitment to transforming Nigeria’s tertiary education sector,” Uduyok said. “It aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
He emphasised that the N1.399 billion project demonstrates resilience and integrity at a time when institutions face significant infrastructure gaps.
TETFund’s Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono — represented by Engr. Samson Imoni — commended the polytechnic for its discipline in handling public funds. He said TETFund remains committed to expanding infrastructure that supports innovation, technical education and student wellbeing.
Rector Dr Ledum Gwarah described the new hostel as transformative for female students. “This is not merely a building — it is a facility that changes lives,” he said. “With the comfort provided here, our students will remain on campus, concentrate on their studies and thrive in a safe environment.”
