WUKARI, Nigeria — The Chairman of Gashaka Local Government Area of Taraba State, Umar Yusuf, has revoked all existing indigeneship certificates issued by the council following the introduction of a redesigned certificate, directing holders of the old documents to obtain new ones with immediate effect.
The revocation was announced in a statement released on Saturday by the council’s Director of Administration and General Services, Ali Baba.
According to Yusuf, the decision is part of the council’s transition to a new certificate format and applies to all previously issued indigeneship certificates.
“All persons holding the old certificates are hereby directed to report to the Office of the Director Administration and General Services at the Local Government Secretariat for the collection of the new certification of indigene,” Yusuf said.
He stressed that the old certificates are no longer valid, adding: “Note that all old certificates currently in circulation stand revoked with immediate effect please.”
The council advised residents affected by the directive to visit the local government secretariat to collect the redesigned certificates and ensure their records remain valid.
No reason beyond the introduction of the redesigned certificate was provided for the revocation, and the council did not indicate whether the replacement process would attract any fees.
