SOKOTO, Nigeria – The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested three suspected financiers of a major bandit group, alongside several accomplices linked to motorcycle theft and criminal conspiracy.
Police spokesperson DSP Ahmad Rufai confirmed the arrests in a statement on Friday, saying the operations underscore the command’s intensified efforts against violent crime across the state.
He reported that the first operation was executed on Wednesday in Tangaza Local Government Area, where operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended one Ruwa Ginyo and two others believed to be closely affiliated with a notorious bandit network.
According to the police, the suspects allegedly received rustled cattle from armed bandits, sold them in local markets, and remitted the proceeds to the criminals. Four rustled cows were recovered during the operation, and the suspects have reportedly confessed.
In a separate operation in Talata Mafara, Zamfara State, officers tracked and arrested individuals implicated in motorcycle theft, criminal conspiracy and receiving stolen property. Two suspected stolen motorcycles were recovered, with early investigations linking the case to an ongoing matter in Sokoto.
