Vice President Shettima with NISS graduates during EIMC 18 ceremony
ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria strengthens its strategic security leadership as the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) graduates 78 senior officers from the Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC) 18, reinforcing the country’s capacity to confront evolving security threats.
The officers complete the intensive 10-month programme, joining 1,130 senior security personnel already trained by NISS across successive cohorts. The institute says the milestone reflects sustained efforts to professionalise intelligence leadership and improve inter-agency coordination.
Receiving the NISS delegation at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, Vice President Kashim Shettima praises the institute for its growing influence on Nigeria’s national security architecture. “The work of NISS is central to building a proactive and coordinated security system for our country,” Shettima says. “It ensures that our agencies are equipped not only to respond to threats, but to anticipate them.”
He adds that the institute’s training programmes align with the administration’s broader reforms aimed at strengthening long-term national stability and intelligence-driven decision-making.
Beyond the graduation ceremony, the NISS delegation presents a strategic report highlighting the rising influence of non-state actors across Africa, warning that security threats increasingly transcend national borders. “No African country can confront these challenges alone,” Shettima says. “Our collective security depends on deeper intelligence sharing, regional cooperation and shared responsibility.”
With the completion of EIMC 18, NISS consolidated its role as a leading centre for executive-level security training, preparing senior officers to navigate an increasingly complex domestic and regional security environment.
