ABUJA, Nigeria – Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday commissioned newly rehabilitated and expanded roads in Abuja’s Karu corridor, describing the project as a major step toward reducing traffic congestion and improving the quality of life for residents.
The project, commissioned as part of activities marking the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration, covers the stretch from the Karu Interchange to Customs Clinic Junction and adjoining roads.
Officials said the upgraded road network is expected to ease traffic congestion, improve connectivity and support economic activities along one of the busiest corridors linking the Federal Capital Territory with neighbouring states.
Representing President Bola Tinubu at the ceremony, Shettima said the project reflects the administration’s commitment to delivering infrastructure where Nigerians live and work.
“We were in this vicinity to commission water supply projects for Karu and neighbouring communities. Today, it is roads. This project stands as a clear testament to our promise to reduce urban congestion and improve the living standard of our people,” he said.
According to the President, the Karu corridor had suffered severe traffic congestion for years, affecting productivity and the wellbeing of commuters.
“By expanding and rehabilitating these roads, we are not just laying asphalt. We are injecting life back into the local economy. This project cuts travel time, reduces gridlock and creates the right conditions for businesses to thrive,” he said.
