Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi
KANO, Nigeria – Kaduna-based Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi describes Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, as a “lucky soul” following official confirmation of his death by Iranian authorities.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Gumi says Khamenei dies while standing against what he calls the “killers of innocent children and women”, arguing that the Iranian leader’s death will ignite renewed demands for justice across the Muslim world.
“He was a lucky soul. He died in Jihad against killers of innocent children and women in Gaza and elsewhere,” Gumi writes.
The cleric adds that the death will have lasting consequences for the global Muslim community.
“His blood will fuel the change in the ummah. He stood firmly for justice and didn’t hide in bunkers,” he says.
Iran formally announces Khamenei’s death on Sunday, declaring 40 days of public mourning and a seven-day national holiday, according to a broadcast by state television network IRINN.
A statement read on air from Iran’s Supreme National Security Council accuses the United States and Israel of orchestrating the attack leading to Khamenei’s death, describing it as martyrdom and a rallying point for resistance.
The announcement follows claims by former US President Donald Trump, who writes on Truth Social that Khamenei has been killed, calling him “one of the most evil figures in history”.
While Israeli media reported earlier that Khamenei died during Saturday’s strikes, Sunday’s statement marks Iran’s first official confirmation.
