OWERRI, Nigeria – The ‘Eye Can See’ initiative by Seplat Energy and Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited reaches over 23,000 Nigerians with free eye care services.
Speaking in Owerri, spokesperson Chioma Afe says the programme has delivered 797 surgeries and 13,525 eyeglasses since 2012.
“Our goal is to make eye care accessible, especially for underserved communities,” she says.
The 2026 outreach has already benefited more than 2,100 people, offering screenings and cataract surgeries.
United Nations health goals guide the initiative, particularly SDG 3 on well-being.
NNPC official Olanrewaju Igandan says, “This effort has given many a fresh chance at life.”
Rising healthcare costs, organisers say, make such interventions critical for vulnerable populations.
Beneficiaries describe the programme as life-changing, restoring vision and independence.
