Former Power Minister, Saleh Mamman convicted over alleged ₦22bn fraud linked to hydroelectric projects
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal High Court sentences former Power Minister Saleh Mamman to 75 years in prison over corruption linked to the Mambilla and Zungeru hydroelectric power projects.
Justice James Omotosho delivers the judgment on Wednesday after convicting Mamman on a 12-count charge bordering on alleged diversion of public funds tied to the multi-billion-naira energy projects.

Justice Omotosho also directs security agencies to arrest the former minister wherever he is found and rules that the jail term begins immediately after his arrest.
The judge further orders the forfeiture of all recovered funds and properties linked to the case to the Federal Government.
In addition, the court directs Mamman to refund the outstanding balance from the alleged ₦22bn associated with the Mambilla and Zungeru hydroelectric projects.
The ruling marks one of Nigeria’s most significant corruption convictions involving a former cabinet minister in recent years and reinforces renewed scrutiny over public infrastructure spending.
The Mambilla and Zungeru power projects remain critical to Nigeria’s long-term electricity expansion plans, with both projects repeatedly facing delays, funding controversies and allegations of mismanagement.
The judgment also signals intensified anti-corruption efforts targeting former public officials accused of diverting funds earmarked for strategic national development projects.
