Lagos, Nigeria – The Rotary Club of Lekki Phase 1 delivers free medical services to hundreds of residents in Ogombo, Lagos, reinforcing efforts to expand healthcare access in underserved communities.
The outreach, conducted on Friday with partner organisations, provides general health checks, breast cancer screenings, vaccinations, and basic treatments for residents who lack regular access to medical care.
“We are committed to making healthcare services accessible to underserved residents in Ogombo,” says club president Comfort Anorue. “We acknowledge the healthcare challenges facing the community and pledge to continue our support.”
Data from the outreach show targeted interventions, including 51 reading glasses distributed, 25 women screened for breast cancer, 200 children dewormed, and 150 households receiving insecticide-treated nets. Measles and rubella vaccines are also administered.
Anorue outlines plans to strengthen local health infrastructure, including revamping the Gbara Health Post, improving potable water supply, and boosting staffing and services.
Public health experts say such community-led interventions play a critical role in bridging healthcare gaps, especially in peri-urban settlements.
“Together, we can make a lasting impact,” Anorue adds, calling for collaboration from government agencies, donors, and individuals to sustain healthcare delivery in vulnerable communities.
