PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria – The Rivers State House of Assembly has resumed legislative business for the first time since the lifting of the emergency rule imposed in March.
At Thursday’s session, lawmakers adopted six resolutions, including appreciation to President Bola Tinubu “for restoring peace and lifting the state of emergency.”
Speaker Martin Amaewhule announced that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been urged to submit commissioner nominees for screening without delay. The Assembly also resolved to pass an appropriation law to stabilise governance for the rest of 2025.
Other resolutions include investigating financial spending during the emergency, reviewing outdated laws, and enacting reforms to address current realities.
“These resolutions are designed to restore legislative authority and secure peace in Rivers State,” Amaewhule said.
