LAGOS, Nigeria – The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has provided free healthcare to more than 300 residents of Oshodi, Lagos State, through a two-day medical outreach aimed at improving access to essential health services and detecting diseases early.
The annual outreach, organised by the Calvary Zonal Headquarters, Province 89, ended on Sunday after offering beneficiaries free medical consultations, eye examinations, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, other health screenings and essential medications.
Speaking at the event, the Pastor-in-Charge of the Zone, Jeffrey Aganbi, said the initiative followed a directive by the General Overseer of the RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, encouraging churches to support their host communities through practical service.
“It is a directive from the General Overseer, Pastor Adeboye, that churches should go out of their way to be a blessing to their community,” Aganbi said. He noted that the outreach was designed to bridge healthcare gaps by providing free medical services to underserved residents while urging governments to improve access to basic amenities and healthcare nationwide.
A Family and Public Health Physician, Dr Rotimi Adesanya, said hypertension was the most common condition detected during the exercise, with many participants discovering for the first time that they had high blood pressure. He called on the Federal Government to provide free antihypertensive medicines and urged residents to enrol in the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme (Ilera Eko) to ensure continued access to affordable healthcare.
Chairman of the Abayomi Community Development Association, Adeboye Oludayo, commended the church for sustaining the outreach over the past 12 years, saying it had helped identify illnesses before they developed into serious complications. Organisers said more than 10,000 people have benefited from the annual medical intervention since it began, while beneficiaries described the initiative as timely and life changing.
