ANAMBRA, Nigeria – The Police Service Commission (PSC) has expressed satisfaction with the level of security arrangements in Anambra State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, describing the environment as calm following intensified police deployment.
The Commission’s statement on Thursday, issued by its spokesperson, Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, credited the improved atmosphere to the recent two-day engagement tour by the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, whose consultative meetings strengthened stakeholder coordination.
PSC’s Standing Committee Chairman on Police Matters, retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu, is leading a monitoring delegation to assess police conduct throughout the election process.
Lakanu noted that the oversight exercise aligns with the Commission’s constitutional role to ensure that police officers discharge duties professionally and impartially. “The Commission is committed to supporting the Police to guarantee free, fair, and credible elections,” he said.
To encourage accountability, PSC released dedicated hotlines allowing citizens to report police behaviour across the state’s senatorial districts.
Meanwhile, CP Abayomi Shogunle has assumed duty as Commissioner of Police for election security, with DIG Ben Okolo leading the broader police operational command.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding democratic integrity through effective policing and transparent electoral conduct.
