UYO, Nigeria – The Akwa Ibom State Police Command arrests 23 suspects and recovers large quantities of suspected illicit drugs during a late-night raid at Ibaka Fishing Port, authorities confirm.
Police spokesperson DSP Timfon John in a statement on Sunday says the intelligence-led operation targets criminal black spots within the Ibaka axis between Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
“Operatives acted on credible intelligence to dismantle criminal hideouts,” John states.
Recovered items include suspected Indian hemp, chemically enhanced substances, illicit locally brewed drinks, and drug-use paraphernalia.
Police say investigations are ongoing to identify additional members of the drug network operating in the area, while patrols are intensified to prevent a resurgence of crime.
The command reiterates its zero-tolerance stance on drug abuse and criminality, warning that similar operations will continue statewide.
