PLATEAU, Nigeria – Plateau Police arrest two suspected terrorist commanders linked to a deadly ambush that killed 28 security personnel.
The suspects are accused of orchestrating a March 13 attack on a joint patrol team in Kanam Local Government Area, where gunmen opened fire on soldiers and vigilante members.
The assault, traced to bandits operating from the Madami forest spanning multiple states, resulted in the deaths of 20 soldiers and eight vigilantes, including senior military officers.
Commissioner of Police Ewah Bassey confirms the arrests followed an intensive intelligence-led investigation.
“Following the devastating attack, we swung into action and arrested the suspects in their hideouts,” he says.
Bassey adds that the suspects are providing useful information to aid ongoing investigations.
“We could not rest over the incident. They are now assisting with critical intelligence,” he notes.
Police also parade 22 additional suspects linked to crimes including kidnapping, gun running and cattle rustling.
Authorities say investigations continue as efforts intensify to dismantle criminal networks in the region.
