IBADAN, Nigeria – The Oyo State Government shuts down an herbal factory in Ibadan after confirming severe environmental violations linked to public health complaints.
Authorities on Friday close Ar-Rahmon Khabul Herbal Nigeria Limited following petitions from residents reporting persistent foul odour and health discomfort.
Chairperson of the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority, Justice Aderonke Aderemi (retd), says inspections reveal the facility operates illegally within a densely populated residential area.
“Tobacco leaf forms a major part of production, emitting offensive odours harmful to residents,” Aderemi says.
Officials also cite toxic air emissions, wastewater discharge into a community water source and improper waste disposal, despite claims of contractor engagement. The firm had earlier received a 21-day abatement notice to relocate.
The government says it will intensify monitoring and will not tolerate environmental breaches.
