OGBOMOSO, Nigeria – Doctors at Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital have suspended their two-month strike following assurances from Governor Seyi Makinde.
In a letter to hospital management dated October 1, 2025, the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) announced they will resume clinical duties Thursday.
“This decision was reached in honour of the governor’s visit and his commitment to resolving our longstanding demands,” said ARD President Dr Adedokun Stephen and Secretary Dr Mustapha Adedapo.
The strike, which began July 29, stemmed from poor working conditions, inadequate equipment, and welfare concerns. It left patients across Ogbomoso and neighbouring towns stranded.
Governor Makinde visited the hospital on September 30, pledging reforms and engagement with stakeholders.
Residents welcomed the development. “This hospital is our lifeline. We suffered during the strike. We hope the government delivers this time,” said patient Abdullahi Jimoh.
Analysts say the suspension offers relief but warned sustained government commitment is vital to prevent future unrest.
