Doctors strike
OSUN, Nigeria – Resident doctors in Osun State have joined the nationwide indefinite strike declared by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), grounding clinical services at the University of Osun Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.
The President of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Dr Phillip Ajibade, confirmed the development to journalists on Saturday.
He said the action followed clear instructions from the national leadership of NARD. “The NARD president directed all members across Nigeria to commence a total, indefinite strike. ARD UTH Osogbo is an affiliate of NARD, and we have complied,” Ajibade explained.
NARD National President, Dr Mohammad Suleiman, had earlier stated that the strike became inevitable after the Federal Government failed to meet key demands, including improved welfare, training support and better working conditions.
“Our demands affect all resident doctors. The strike follows several unfulfilled promises and unsuccessful negotiations,” Suleiman said.
The industrial action has left many patients unattended, with outpatient clinics and scheduled surgeries postponed.
Hospital sources said consultants and nurses are providing minimal emergency services.
Residents appealed to the government to urgently resolve the impasse to prevent avoidable loss of lives.
