OGUN, Nigeria – No fewer than 48 people died in 82 road traffic crashes recorded across Ogun State between September and December 2025, according to the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps.
TRACE spokesman Babatunde Akinbiyi discloses the figures in a statement issued on Tuesday, adding that 165 others sustain varying degrees of injuries.
Akinbiyi says the death toll represents a 54.17 per cent increase compared with the same period in 2024, despite a reduction in overall crashes and injuries.
“Between September and December 2024, we recorded 92 crashes, 188 injured persons and 22 deaths,” he states.
He explains that the number of crashes declines by 12.20 per cent, while injuries drop by 13.94 per cent, suggesting improved compliance but deadlier incidents.
Pedestrian involvement in crashes reduces by 66.67 per cent, while commercial and private vehicle involvement drops by 150 per cent and 81.25 per cent respectively.
“Bus involvement reduces by 52.94 per cent, articulated vehicles by 37.5 per cent, and cars by 41.67 per cent,” Akinbiyi adds.
He notes that the statistics are compiled from incidents witnessed by TRACE and the Nigeria Police Force across covered areas.
TRACE urges motorists to obey traffic regulations, avoid speeding and ensure vehicle roadworthiness to prevent further loss of lives.
