OGUN, Nigeria – Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command arrest three suspects linked to the killing of a 38-year-old man, thwarting an alleged attempt to secretly dispose of the body in Akute, Ifo Local Government Area.
The suspects include Maureen Okirie, 35, alongside two minors, Salia Karikari, 15, and Jubril Karikari, 12. Police say officers intercept them while attempting to bury the victim, identified as Stanley Okirie, in a shallow grave.
According to police spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi, detectives from the Ajuwon Division act on intelligence about suspicious activity in the area.
“Officers arrive at the scene and catch one of the suspects in the act of concealing the body,” Babaseyi says.
Preliminary findings indicate the victim suffers a fatal head injury, allegedly inflicted with a wooden pestle, which has since been recovered.
Investigators suspect additional accomplices, believed to be relatives of the deceased, may have played roles in both the killing and attempted cover-up.
The body has been deposited at a morgue in Olambe for autopsy, while the suspects remain in custody pending transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta.
Reacting, Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni described the case as “deeply disturbing,” citing the alleged involvement of family members.
“We will ensure a thorough investigation and bring all culpable persons to justice,” he says.
Police urge residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to support crime prevention efforts.
