Ogun Graduates 1,000 Amotekun Operatives

SAGAMU, Nigeria — The Ogun State Government has graduated 1,000 new Amotekun operatives to strengthen grassroots security across the state, reaffirming its commitment to improving public safety and supporting conventional security agencies.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Head of Service, Mr. Sala Olanrewaju, made the announcement on Monday during the passing-out parade of Batch ‘F’ operatives at the International Stadium in Sagamu.

“Security remains the bedrock upon which sustainable development thrives. Without peace and security, economic growth, social progress, and human development cannot be fully realised,” Abiodun said.

He commended the Ogun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, for complementing conventional security agencies through professionalism, vigilance and courage in protecting lives and property.

Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the agency by improving logistics, operational support, personnel welfare and continuous training under the state’s ISEYA development agenda.

Addressing the newly graduated operatives, the governor urged them to perform their duties with discipline, fairness and respect for the rule of law.

“The knowledge and skills you have acquired must be deployed with discipline, integrity, fairness, and respect for the rule of law,” he said.

He also encouraged the officers to build public trust through intelligence gathering and close collaboration with traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups and other security agencies to tackle emerging security threats.

The governor assured the corps of continued government support through enhanced welfare packages, modern equipment and regular capacity-building programmes to improve operational effectiveness.

He further called on residents to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that would help prevent crime and maintain peace across Ogun State.

Earlier, the Corps Commander of Ogun Amotekun, Alade Adedigba, said the 1,000 graduates had undergone rigorous training designed to prepare them for effective community policing and grassroots security operations.
