OGUN, Nigeria – The Ogun State House of Assembly has summoned the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, and Craneburg Construction Company over the worsening state of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
The lawmakers’ decision followed Africa Health Report’s recent investigation exposing the deplorable highway conditions and gridlock along the Toll Gate and Papalanto/Ewekoro corridor.
Speaker Oludaisi Elemide said the meeting, scheduled for October 28, aims to “find urgent solutions to the prolonged suffering of motorists and residents.” Former Speaker Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo and Majority Leader Hon. Yusuf Sherrif decried the situation as “wasteful and unacceptable.”
“The traffic situation has gone beyond the control of the State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE),” the Assembly stated.
In another motion, lawmakers demanded the immediate revival of sick bays in all public schools. Hon. Damilola Soneye said, “Functional sick bays are critical to saving pupils’ lives and preventing health emergencies.”
The Assembly urged collaboration between the Ministries of Health and Education to implement a school health policy and employ graduates from the Ogun State Polytechnic of Health Technology, Ilese.
