Governor Dapo Abiodun
OGUN, Nigeria – Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has met with security chiefs to review the state’s security architecture amid rising attacks across Nigeria.
Writing on X after the meeting, the governor said the engagement focused on evaluating current security levels and strengthening preventive strategies to maintain Ogun’s status as one of the country’s most stable states.
Abiodun emphasised that peace must be protected through deliberate and continuous planning.
“We cannot wait for crises before acting,” he wrote. “Engaging security agencies regularly ensures Ogun remains ahead of threats.”
The governor noted that the meeting was not the first of its kind but was significant given the worsening insecurity nationwide. The session reaffirmed the commitment of both the state government and security agencies to safeguarding residents, businesses and critical infrastructure.
The review comes against a backdrop of escalating attacks in other regions. Last Friday, armed groups kidnapped 215 students and 12 teachers from St Mary’s School in Papiri, Niger State, although 50 students later escaped. Four days earlier, 26 schoolgirls were abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State.
In Kwara State, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq also announced the release of 38 victims abducted during an attack on Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku.
Abiodun said Ogun cannot afford complacency and will continue to improve intelligence gathering, inter-agency coordination and rapid-response capacity.
“Our priority is ensuring that every resident feels safe,” he added.
Officials say more security briefings will follow as the state refines its threat-prevention framework.
