ABUJA, Nigeria – The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) issues a fresh warning to serving corps members to avoid publishing harmful or misleading content on social media, insisting that posts capable of tarnishing the Scheme’s image or misrepresenting Nigeria will attract disciplinary measures.
Director General, NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, delivers the caution while addressing members of the 2025 Batch ‘C’ at the Delta State Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku.
A statement shared on the Scheme’s official Facebook page on Friday quotes him urging corps members to understand how their digital activity influences national perception. “Use social media to promote unity, patriotism and our values,” he says. “Do not circulate content that damages the reputation of the NYSC or this country.”
Nafiu also reminds members to observe camp regulations, avoid unauthorised travel and take assigned duties seriously. He stresses the importance of biometric registration, Community Development Service and respect for local customs in host communities. “Follow simple instructions and do not misrepresent us at your primary assignment,” he warns.
The DG insists that harmful online posts will not be tolerated, urging corps members to instead create content that positively reflects national identity and strengthens social cohesion. He says responsible behaviour—online and offline—remains central to the Scheme’s mission of building unity.
NYSC officials say growing misuse of digital platforms by young Nigerians poses risks to national image and public trust. The Scheme maintains that corps members must uphold professional conduct at all times, particularly as they represent the government in diverse communities across the country.
