ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) portal has been crippled by heavy traffic, leaving thousands of corps members unable to complete their mandatory monthly biometric clearance.
The outage, which began early November, coincided with a surge of new registrations ahead of the next orientation camp. “I’ve tried logging in since the 2nd, but it keeps showing an error message,” said Amaka, a corps member in Abuja.
Others described repeated visits to local offices. “We understand there’s high traffic, but NYSC should have upgraded the system,” lamented Tosin, serving in Lagos.
An NYSC official, speaking anonymously, confirmed that the glitch was due to server congestion and that technical teams were “working to restore access.”
“The registration period always comes with high demand. We’re scaling capacity,” the official added.
The failure has raised concerns about sanctions for those unable to verify attendance before the monthly deadline. Civil society groups are urging the NYSC to extend the clearance window and improve digital infrastructure.
As frustrated corps members await resolution, the incident exposes a deeper problem — Nigeria’s outdated public service digital systems struggling under growing demand.
