ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps is in mourning after a female operative is killed during a simulation exercise at its national headquarters in Abuja, authorities confirm.
The officer dies after being accidentally run over by an operational vehicle during a routine parade-ground display organised by the Corps’ Female Strike Force. The incident occurred on Saturday in full view of colleagues and trainees, sparking grief and shock across the service.
NSCDC spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, describes the incident as “heartbreaking”, saying the organisation delays its public response to first consult the victim’s family.
“The incident occurred during a simulation exercise on the parade ground. There was no way it could be hidden from the public,” Afolabi says.
He confirms that the officer becomes trapped beneath one of the vans used in the drill and sustains fatal injuries despite rescue efforts. Videos circulating online show operational vehicles marked Female Squad and Female Strike Force FCT Command moments before the fatal accident.
Senior officers have been deployed to support the bereaved family, while burial arrangements are underway.
“A high-powered delegation of very senior officers has been sent to the family,” Afolabi adds.
The Corps says a detailed report on the circumstances surrounding the incident will be released later, as questions mount over parade safety protocols.
