LAGOS, Nigeria – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) deploy more than 1,000 personnel across Ondo State to reinforce security ahead of the Yuletide celebrations, as authorities intensify measures to protect lives, property and critical national assets.
The Ondo State Commandant, Oluyemi Joshua Ibiloye, issued the directive through the Operations Department, according to a statement released on Thursday in Akure by the command’s spokesperson, Daniel Aidamenbor.
Ibiloye says the deployment delivers “comprehensive and watertight security coverage” before, during and after the festive period, noting that the season typically records increased population movement and large public gatherings.
Specialised units, including the Arms Squad, Crack Squad, Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) Unit, CBRNE Unit, Female Strike Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Agro Rangers and Surveillance Unit, form part of the operation. “These units are strategically positioned to proactively respond to any security threat during the celebrations,” Ibiloye states.
Personnel are stationed at churches, markets, motor parks, malls and recreational centres, while motorised patrols intensify surveillance on major highways and inner roads.
Area Commanders and Divisional Officers across the state’s 18 local government areas receive instructions to ensure full coverage of their jurisdictions and collaborate with sister security agencies to prevent breaches.
Reassuring residents, Ibiloye urges the public to report suspicious movements promptly and pledges a peaceful festive season. He also commends the Ondo State Government and residents for their continued support of the corps.
