LAGOS, Nigeria – The Nigerian Railway Corporation has increased train services on the Lagos-Ibadan corridor ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations as thousands of travelers prepare for the Sallah holiday rush.
The corporation announced on Saturday that six train trips would operate on Tuesday, May 26, instead of the regular four services to accommodate increased passenger demand.
Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, said trains would depart Lagos at 7:45 a.m., 1:40 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., while departures from Ibadan would take place at 8:00 a.m., 10:50 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The temporary adjustment forms part of measures aimed at easing movement during the festive period and reducing travel pressure on major highways.
The NRC also disclosed that the Osun State Government would run its annual free Sallah train service for indigenes travelling from Lagos to Osogbo.
According to Unyimadu, the special service will depart Iddo Station in Lagos on May 26, with return trips scheduled for May 28.
He noted that the initiative was sponsored by the Osun State Government through a partnership arrangement with the NRC.
The corporation assured passengers of safe and reliable rail operations throughout the holiday period and urged commuters to comply with travel guidelines at train stations.
