LAGOS, Nigeria – Nollywood star Kate Henshaw calls for urgent awareness and stronger support systems for women experiencing menopause, highlighting widespread misinformation and stigma.
Speaking in Lagos at the 2026 conference of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria, Henshaw says many women struggle in silence due to limited access to accurate health information.
“Menopause is natural, but many women do not understand what is happening to their bodies,” she says.
She recounts her personal journey, noting she only recognised her symptoms after turning 50. Common effects include hot flashes, mood swings and skin changes, which can disrupt daily life.
Health experts at the event stress the need for science-based solutions. Pharmacist Ibukun Tola-Ogunyemi highlights rising demand for evidence-backed products, while menopause coach Mosunmola Dosumu emphasises education and nutrition.
Henshaw adds that wellness requires consistency and proper guidance. “True health is not just physical appearance—it is understanding your body,” she says.
Stakeholders call for open conversations to dismantle cultural stigma and improve women’s health outcomes nationwide.
