ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria’s Immigration Service (NIS) is warning job seekers to beware of a surge in fake recruitment portals exploiting heightened public interest in new immigration appointments.
In a statement shared on its official X account on Tuesday, the NIS says fraudsters are setting up counterfeit websites and adverts designed to impersonate the service and deceive applicants.
The agency stresses that the only authorised recruitment process currently in operation is being conducted by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB). Prospective applicants are advised to rely solely on the official CDCFIB portal for verified updates.
“Applicants are advised to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to fraudsters who may use fake portals to collect personal data or demand payments under the guise of recruitment,” the NIS says.
Authorities note that the fraudulent platforms typically request sensitive personal information and, in some cases, demand illegal fees from unsuspecting candidates who believe they are engaging with a legitimate government process.
The NIS says any website, link or advertisement outside the approved CDCFIB platform has no official backing and should be treated as suspicious.
