ABUJA, Nigeria – The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) warns Nigerians against a fake online portal claiming to offer free National Identification Number updates.
The commission says a viral flyer promoting the link is false and unauthorised, urging citizens to avoid it.
According to NIMC on Saturday, all NIN updates must be processed through its official self-service platform. NIMC Warns Nigerians Against Fake NIN Data Update Portal Scam
The fraudulent post, bearing government logos, claims to allow changes to names, gender and date of birth via a non-government website.
Authorities caution that such platforms pose risks of identity theft and fraud.
NIMC reiterates it remains the sole authority for NIN services and advises Nigerians to rely only on verified channels.
