LAGOS, Nigeria – The Nigerian Navy intensifies its anti-drug operations, handing over 500 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa seized in Lagos to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
Naval operatives from Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT intercept the illicit drugs on February 18 in Abule Osun, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, acting on intelligence that leads them to stop a suspicious van.
Commander of NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams Aliu,in a statement on Friday says the seizure reflects the Navy’s sustained resolve to disrupt criminal networks within Nigeria’s maritime and coastal corridors.
“This operation demonstrates our commitment to securing the nation’s waterways and supporting law enforcement partners,” Aliu says, attributing the success to strategic direction from the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Iddi Abbas.
He urges residents to continue providing credible intelligence to aid security operations.
The NDLEA receives the seized drugs at its Festac Area Command, with Deputy Commander of Narcotics Adejumo Gbenga Ayo confirming further investigation and prosecution.
Security analysts say the handover underscores growing inter-agency cooperation against narcotics trafficking in Nigeria.
