ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria confirms its ongoing security partnership with the United States following recent precision air strikes targeting terrorist elements in the North-West region, reaffirming a joint commitment to counter terrorism and violent extremism.
In a statement issued Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Nigeria remains actively engaged in structured security cooperation with international partners, including the US, through intelligence sharing and coordinated operations.
“These engagements align with international law, mutual respect for sovereignty, and established bilateral agreements,” says ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.
The ministry explains that the collaboration focuses on dismantling terrorist networks while safeguarding Nigeria’s national interests and civilian lives. Officials stress that all actions follow recognised international practices. “Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts prioritise the protection of citizens, national unity, and the dignity of all communities,” the statement says. “Terrorist violence threatens our shared values, regardless of religion or ethnicity.”
Authorities confirm that cooperation with partners also targets terrorist financing, logistics, and cross-border movements, while strengthening Nigeria’s intelligence and security institutions for long-term resilience.
The government reiterates that counter-terrorism operations aim to restore peace without compromising human rights or democratic principles.
The ministry urges citizens to rely on official communication channels and continue supporting security agencies, pledging transparency in Nigeria’s ongoing anti-terrorism strategy.
