ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria has secured the hosting rights for the 2027 Conference of the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa (AEAA), while the Registrar and Chief Executive of the National Examinations Council (NECO), Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, has been elected Vice-President of the continental assessment body.
The decisions were endorsed by the AEAA General Assembly during its 42nd Annual Conference held in Arusha, Tanzania, marking a significant milestone for Nigeria’s education assessment sector and its growing influence in examination reforms across Africa.
Prof. Wushishi, who previously represented the West African sub-region on the AEAA Executive Council, was elected Vice-President following years of involvement in strengthening educational assessment on the continent.
Since assuming office as NECO Registrar in 2021, Wushishi has overseen reforms aimed at improving examination administration, expanding the council’s digital infrastructure, integrating technology into assessment processes and enhancing NECO’s international presence.
The council has also expanded its examination services beyond Nigeria, with operations now covering eight foreign countries. His reappointment earlier this year by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was widely viewed as recognition of the reforms implemented under his leadership.
Nigeria is expected to host the 2027 AEAA Conference in Abuja from August 16 to 20, 2027.
The conference is projected to bring together policymakers, education administrators, researchers, assessment experts and examination bodies from across Africa to deliberate on emerging issues in educational assessment, technology, artificial intelligence and certification systems.
The hosting rights further position Nigeria as a key player in Africa’s evolving educational assessment landscape, especially as examination bodies continue to adopt digital innovations and AI-driven solutions.
