ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government files a 13-count charge against six individuals, including retired military officers and a police inspector, over alleged terrorism and coup-related offences.
The case, filed before the Federal High Court, lists retired Major General Mohammed Gana and Naval Captain Erasmus Victor among the defendants.
Prosecutors allege the suspects conspired to wage war against Nigeria and destabilise its constitutional order.
According to court filings signed by Rotimi Oyedepo, the defendants face charges including terrorism, treason, and money laundering.
They are accused of “knowingly rendering support” for terrorist activities and failing to disclose intelligence that could have prevented such acts.
Some defendants allegedly handled funds linked to terrorism financing, including millions of naira traced to unlawful activities.
Authorities also name former minister Timipre Sylva as being at large in connection with the case.
The charges follow earlier arrests of military personnel linked to an alleged plot uncovered in 2025.
Legal analysts say the case could test Nigeria’s commitment to prosecuting national security threats.
The defendants are expected to be arraigned before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik as proceedings begin.
