ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigeria Police Force suspends enforcement of vehicle tinted glass permits following a Federal High Court order halting the exercise.
Federal Capital Territory Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh confirmed on Wednesday that officers had received the court order.
“The enforcement of tinted permits is now on hold pending the court’s verdict,” Adeh told AIT.
The interim injunction, issued in Suit No. FHC/WR/CS/103/2025, directs the police and the Inspector-General to maintain the status quo pending further proceedings.
Adeh clarified the policy’s intent: “The law was introduced for security reasons. Some criminals use tinted vehicles to hide identities.”
She dismissed claims of revenue motives, noting that payments for permits go directly to the government treasury.
“We respect judicial processes,” she said. “We’ll await the court’s decision before resuming enforcement.”
The permit system, introduced to curb crime, remains contentious among motorists who say enforcement often leads to harassment.
