ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government warns that at least 10 states face potential flooding following forecasts of heavy rainfall between April 8 and April 12, 2026.
In an advisory issued on Wednesday by the Federal Ministry of Environment, Director Usman Bokani says several communities could experience rainfall intense enough to trigger flooding.
“The following locations… are likely to witness heavy rainfall that may lead to flooding,” the notice states.
Affected states include Ebonyi, Anambra, Ogun, Taraba, Cross River, Benue, Imo, Delta, Rivers and Abia, with specific communities identified as high-risk zones.
The warning follows earlier alerts by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency cautioning farmers against early planting due to deceptive rainfall patterns.
Authorities urge residents and stakeholders to take precautionary measures as the rainy season intensifies.
Experts say early warnings remain critical to reducing disaster risks and protecting lives, infrastructure and livelihoods.
