Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government has called on state governments and communities to take ownership of the LUMINAH 2030 initiative, stressing that its success will depend on local action rather than policies set in Abuja.
Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, made the call on Monday during a two-day stakeholder engagement with pilot states.
Launched in March 2025, LUMINAH 2030 aims to empower one million underserved girls and women through education, skills, and digital literacy by 2030.
“Let every state become a LUMINAH exemplary state. Let every community become a place where girls can learn safely and with dignity,” Ahmad said.
She described the initiative as a key part of the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda under the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), designed to make inclusive and equitable education a national priority.
“Girls who wake before dawn to fetch water or hawk instead of learning are not just calling for help—they’re calling for justice,” Ahmad added.
UBEC Executive Secretary, Hajia Aisha Garba, said LUMINAH 2030 has been institutionalised within UBEC’s operations, with a special unit and dedicated funding line.
“This is not just another programme—it’s a national movement to empower one million girls through learning, vocational skills, and opportunity,” she said.
