ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria education reforms have received fresh international recognition ahead of the Global Education Summit, with former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete commending the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen learning outcomes and expand access to quality education.
The endorsement came during a meeting with Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Olatunji Alausa, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the Minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Ikharo Attah.
Kikwete, who chairs the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Board, praised the ongoing reforms and said Nigeria is increasingly playing a leading role in shaping global education priorities.
“Minister, thank you for your time. Congratulations on the efforts you are making,” Kikwete said.
He also expressed confidence in Nigeria’s contribution to the forthcoming Global Education Summit in September, where President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to co-chair the event alongside Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Kikwete noted that Nigeria’s influence within the Global Partnership for Education has continued to grow, particularly with Alausa serving on the GPE Board.
According to him, the country’s active participation reflects its commitment to expanding access to quality education and supporting global efforts to improve learning opportunities for children.
Responding, Alausa thanked the former Tanzanian leader for his longstanding contributions to education across Africa and beyond.
“Thank you, Mr President, for all your service to Africa, to the world, and to the children of the world for all the things you continue to do to support foundational education,” the minister said.
Alausa reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to implementing evidence-based reforms under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The latest endorsement comes as Nigeria intensifies reforms aimed at improving foundational learning, strengthening education governance and increasing global collaboration to achieve better educational outcomes.
