ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government dismisses no fewer than 38 senior officers, including an Assistant Commandant-General (ACG), from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) over gross misconduct, insubordination and violations of public service rules.
The dismissals, approved by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) under the Ministry of Interior, form part of wider disciplinary actions taken against 76 personnel across senior and junior cadres in the outgoing year.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, NSCDC Public Relations Officer Babawale Afolabi confirms that the sanctions follow recommendations by the Corps’ Senior and Junior Staff Disciplinary Committees. “About 38 senior officers, including an Assistant Commandant-General, have been dismissed on account of gross misconduct, insubordination and acts unbecoming of a superior officer, in line with the Public Service Rules,” Afolabi states.
He adds that 20 junior officers are dismissed, three demoted by one rank, and seven issued warning letters, while two senior officers are demoted by two ranks, one by a rank, and five others warned.
NSCDC Commandant-General Professor Ahmed Audi reiterates the administration’s zero-tolerance stance on indiscipline, stressing that integrity remains central to the Corps’ reform agenda. “The Service is committed to revamping and repositioning the NSCDC through training and re-training. Acts capable of tarnishing the image of the Corps will not be tolerated,” Audi says.
He urges officers to remain focused on their statutory mandate, particularly amid expanding security responsibilities nationwide.
The government says the sanctions aim to restore professionalism, accountability and public trust within the paramilitary agency.
