Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government unveils emergency measures to ease financial pressure on airlines amid soaring aviation fuel costs threatening operations nationwide.
Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo on Wednesday says President Bola Tinubu has approved discounts on outstanding fees owed by airline operators.
“This is immediate relief to stabilise the sector,” he says.
The government also plans to set up a committee to review multiple taxes embedded in airfares.
Operators have warned that rising Jet A1 fuel prices could disrupt services if urgent intervention is not implemented.
Keyamo says the proposed reforms aim to reduce operational costs and ease ticket prices for passengers.
The measures follow high-level talks involving aviation stakeholders, oil marketers and regulators.
Industry analysts say sustained reforms will be necessary to prevent long-term instability in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
