ABUJA, Nigeria – The NERDC textbook submission deadline has been extended to 7 August 2026, giving publishers, authors and other stakeholders a final opportunity to submit instructional materials for the 2026 Phase I textbook assessment, reassessment and ranking exercise.
The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) announced the extension on Friday, describing it as the last deadline and warning that no further submissions will be accepted after the new closing date.
The extension, approved by the Federal Ministry of Education, follows the expiration of the previous deadline of 3 July 2026 and is intended to encourage broader participation in the national textbook evaluation process.
In a statement signed by NERDC Executive Secretary Prof. Salisu Shehu, the Council said the additional time would enable more publishers, authors and other eligible stakeholders to complete and submit their materials for assessment.
“This final extension is being granted to ensure broader participation and provide publishers, authors, and other eligible stakeholders with an additional opportunity to complete and submit their materials for participation in the 2026 Phase I textbook assessment, reassessment, and ranking exercise,” the statement said.
NERDC said the exercise remains a critical component of efforts to improve the quality of instructional materials used in Nigerian schools by ensuring that textbooks meet nationally approved educational standards before they are recommended for classroom use.
According to the Council, all submissions must comply with the approved Textbook Quality Indicators and Submission Guidelines, which remain unchanged.
NERDC stressed that the extension should not be interpreted as an open-ended process, warning that the 7 August deadline is final.
“No further extension will be granted, and late submissions received after the final deadline will not be accepted under any circumstances,” the statement added.
