
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced the closure of its 2024/2025 academic session application portal, effective Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
The decision, announced on Monday by the Director, strategic communication, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi will allow the Fund to finalise pending applications and continue upkeep disbursements for current beneficiaries.
The Fund confirmed that the 2025/2026 application cycle will open in the second week of October 2025 and run until January 2026.
NELFUND has directed higher institutions to update student records on the Student Verification System (SVS) to ensure smooth processing.
“Announcing the closure of the current application portal is a necessary step to prepare for the next cycle,” said Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, Managing Director/Chief Executive of NELFUND. “We remain committed to removing financial barriers for students and ensuring no eligible applicant is left behind.”
According to the Fund, all unverified applications for the 2024/2025 session will be automatically cancelled after October 8, 2025.
Students whose institutions fail to complete verification will be required to reapply. NELFUND warned that names of non-compliant institutions may be published for transparency.
Meanwhile, upkeep payments for the 2024/2025 session will continue until November 2025, but students must reapply for the new academic year to remain eligible.
